Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho, expressed on Friday that the contributions of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, to Nigerian politics and the development of Ibadan will have a lasting impact.
Oba Balogun, who passed away after a brief illness on Thursday at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, reigned for two years.
In a condolence message shared with The PUNCH in Ibadan, Adeyemo highlighted the late monarch’s role in fostering growth in his region and bringing global attention to Ibadan.
He acknowledged Oba Balogun’s significant involvement in national politics, particularly during his tenure as a lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District from June 3, 1999, to June 3, 2003.
Adeyemo emphasized Oba Balogun’s commitment to preserving Yoruba traditions and institutions, which earned him respect across religious and political divides.
He mourned the loss of the monarch, noting that his two-year reign witnessed notable economic and infrastructural developments in Ibadanland, elevating the city’s global recognition.
Adeyemo extended his condolences to the late monarch’s family, Governor Seyi Makinde, former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-In-Council, the people of Ibadan, the Yoruba community, and other stakeholders, highlighting the void left by Oba Balogun’s passing.
