The Federal University Wukari, situated in the Wukari local government council of Taraba state, finds itself in a distressing situation as the leadership confirms the abduction of two of its students. Joshua Sardauna and Obianu Elizabeth, both part of the university community, were forcibly taken from a nearby restaurant, sending shockwaves through the institution.

Joshua Sardauna, hailing from the Economics Department, and Obianu Elizabeth, a student of Microbiology, represent the harrowing reality of insecurity that plagues certain regions. This incident underscores the vulnerability of students, even in seemingly mundane settings like a local eatery.

The ransom demands, initially set at a staggering N50 million, serve as a grim reminder of the ransom culture that perpetuates such criminal activities. However, in a surprising turn of events, the abductors have revised their demand to N12 million. This reduction, while potentially a relief, still poses a significant financial burden and moral dilemma for the university and the victims’ families.

Mrs. Ashu Agbu, serving as the university’s spokesperson, sheds light on the perpetrators’ intentions. It’s revealed that the kidnappers had targeted the eatery’s owner but, failing to locate their intended victim, resorted to seizing the students instead. The fact that the kidnappers have also threatened to return for the eatery owner adds another layer of fear and uncertainty to the situation.

In response to this crisis, the university authorities, in close collaboration with law enforcement agencies, have mobilized resources and efforts to secure the safe release of the abducted students. The urgency of the situation necessitates round-the-clock vigilance and coordinated action to ensure the students’ well-being and eventual freedom.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this traumatic event, questions about security measures and the broader societal implications of such incidents loom large. The resilience and solidarity of the university community in the face of adversity are put to the test, as they strive to navigate through this challenging ordeal and work towards a resolution that brings the abducted students back unharmed.
