An unidentified woman tragically lost her life after being crushed by a 40-foot container in the Alapere area of Lagos State. Reports indicate that the incident occurred when a Mack truck carrying the container, and allegedly speeding, veered out of control, resulting in the container falling onto a Nissan car with license plate ABJ 692 BG.
The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, conveyed this information in a statement released to the press. According to Taofiq, both the driver of the Mack truck and his assistant fled the scene following the accident, leaving behind a tragic scene.
Emergency services, including LASTMA officials and the Lagos State Ambulance Service, responded to the incident at the scene. The deceased victim was then handed over to the Alapere Police Station.
Bakare Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, emphasized the importance of avoiding speeding and conducting regular vehicle inspections before commencing journeys. He stressed the need for truck drivers, in particular, to adhere to speed limits and ensure the proper functioning of their vehicles’ braking systems to prevent such tragic accidents from occurring in the future.
