In Mowe market, located in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, tragedy struck on Monday. A mother, her son, and another person were tragically electrocuted following an electric spark that occurred after the electricity distribution company restored power post a Sunday rainstorm.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the fatal electric shock originated from a step-down transformer suspended on an electrical pole adjacent to the shop where the incident unfolded, as the shop owners commenced their daily sales routine.

Drivetvnews Reports indicate that a female trader, her son, and another individual lost their lives in the market, with four others sustaining injuries. Segun Soneye, the Director of Information for Obafemi Owode Local Government, confirmed the devastating incident, revealing the grim fate of the woman who was “burnt into ashes.”

Soneye attributed the cause of the tragedy to the construction of shops made of iron beneath the powerline by the traders. In response, Lanre Ogunsola, the Council Chairman, extended his condolences to the affected shop owners and issued a stern seven-day ultimatum for the evacuation of makeshift shops built beneath the high tension powerline to prevent future occurrences.

Furthermore, the council boss visited victims receiving treatment at Mowe Health Post, assuring them of government-funded medical care. The Police Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, corroborated the incident, confirming the death of the mother, identified as Ujuwa Okechukwu, and the hospitalization of four injured victims at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.
