Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have detained Shuaibu Yushau after he attempted to commit suicide by climbing a broadcast mast owned by Aso Television and Radio in Katampe, Abuja. The incident took place on Monday and was initially reported by Drivetvnews.
Yushau’s climb was reportedly a protest against the prevailing insecurity and economic hardships in the country. According to Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Yushau admitted to having carefully watched the mast for about a week before deciding to scale it.
Adeh explained, “Following a distress call from concerned citizens regarding a young man who had climbed a very high mast with a placard at ASO Radio in Katampe around 09:10 a.m, FCT Police Command operatives promptly responded. With skillful negotiation from the police team, the man identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau was prevented from endangering his life. He mentioned observing the mast for about a week before taking the drastic step. Yushau is currently in police custody and in stable condition.”
