The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered 11 iPhones, an HP laptop and other belongings after officers foiled a robbery at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro.
The suspects, identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun, were arrested at about 2:40 am following a distress call reporting an armed robbery at the hostel.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, operatives from the Ewekoro Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, were immediately deployed to the area.
The suspects reportedly abandoned a school bag containing the stolen items and attempted to escape after noticing the arrival of the police. Officers pursued them and arrested two members of the gang.
A search of the abandoned bag reportedly produced 11 assorted iPhones, an HP laptop and various clothes. Some victims have since identified the recovered items as their property.
The police said preliminary investigation also showed that one of the victims was allegedly forced to transfer ₦200,000 into an account during the robbery.
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and identify the owner of the account that received the money.
Although searches conducted at the suspects’ residences reportedly produced no additional incriminating items, the suspects and recovered property have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their prompt response and assured residents and students of continued efforts to protect communities across the state.
The command also advised operators of off-campus student hostels and landlords to keep emergency contact numbers readily available and promptly report suspicious activities or security threats.
