Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has clarified that he never promised President Bola Tinubu that he would join the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike said his commitment was only to support Tinubu’s bid for re-election and not to become a member of the APC.
The minister made the clarification while speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday night.
Wike said he had informed Tinubu from the outset that he would support his re-election but never told the President that he would defect to the APC.
He added that if he eventually decided to join the ruling party, the decision would be his personal choice and would not be influenced by other politicians.
Wike also stated that he was comfortable with his current political position and criticised some of the conduct within the APC.
