The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has denied owing salaries, pensions, gratuities, contractors or suppliers when he left office as Governor of Anambra State.

Drivetvnews gathered that Obi made the clarification in response to recent claims by the Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo that his administration and that of former Governor Willie Obiano left loans that the state is currently repaying.

The state government had said it was prioritising the settlement of existing financial obligations while avoiding the accumulation of new debts.

Reacting to the claim, Obi said he left office without any outstanding payments owed by the state government.

“I left office as Governor nearly 13 years ago. On the day I left office, I was not owing any salaries, pensions, gratuities or any money that the Anambra State Government was supposed to pay,” Obi said.

He also maintained that no supplier or contractor was owed when he handed over power.

“I did not owe a single supplier or contractor. If you find even one person I owed, I will end my 2027 campaign today,” he added.

Obi served as Anambra State Governor from March 2006 to March 2014.
