Residents of Zone E, Shiloh Community, Angwafulani, Kurudu, Abuja, have petitioned the Nigeria Police Force over alleged vandalism of community infrastructure, harassment, assault and conduct capable of disrupting peace by a resident, Bassey Akpan Edet.
The petition, dated September 1, 2026, was submitted to the Divisional Police Officer of the Kurudu Police Division through the leadership and legal representatives of the Shiloh Community Residents Association.
The residents alleged that Edet repeatedly damaged a drainage system constructed by the community, obstructed water channels and confronted residents who challenged his actions.
According to the petition, the first reported incident occurred in May when Edet allegedly interfered with the community drainage without authorisation and redirected wastewater from his compound into the public drainage system.
The residents claimed Edet had not paid the required infrastructure contribution before carrying out the work.
They said two residents, Sadare Oladimeji and Ariyo Charles, confronted him over the matter, prompting Edet to involve police officers from the Federal Secretariat Police Station.
The petitioners stated that the officers later recognised the matter as essentially civil and encouraged the parties to pursue alternative dispute resolution.
They said community leaders subsequently intervened, leading to an agreement under which Edet was to pay ₦50,000 as a penalty. The residents said the amount was eventually paid in two instalments.
However, they alleged that Edet again damaged community infrastructure on August 29 by removing protective structures designed to regulate water flow into the drainage.
The residents further alleged that he blocked part of the drainage in an attempt to use the community facility for personal purposes, warning that the action could worsen waterlogging and flooding around neighbouring properties.
They also accused Edet, his wife, elder sister, houseboy and a bricklayer of physically confronting residents who protested against the alleged obstruction.
The petition specifically alleged that Sadare was attacked after questioning Edet over the removal of the protective structures. It also claimed that Edet’s elder sister assaulted the wife of another resident, identified as David, after she allegedly attempted to record the incident.
The residents said the situation posed a threat to peace in the community and could escalate if not addressed.
They therefore asked the Kurudu Police Division to invite Edet for questioning over the alleged destruction of drainage infrastructure, harassment and assault.
They also requested that he be made to undertake not to damage community property, obstruct public waterways or harass residents, particularly Sadare Oladimeji and Ariyo Charles.
The petitioners further demanded that Edet repair the allegedly damaged drainage structures at his own expense and restore the affected facilities to their previous condition.
The residents appealed to the police to take appropriate preventive and legal measures to safeguard peace and order in the community.
