Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu has a stronger chance of winning re-election in 2027 than he did in 2023.
Drivetvnews gathered that Hamzat made the prediction on Monday during an appearance on TVC News’ Journalists’ Hangout, where he discussed the President’s political prospects ahead of the next general election.
He said the political circumstances surrounding the 2023 presidential election had changed, giving voters an opportunity to assess Tinubu based on his performance since taking office.
According to Hamzat, concerns over religion and regional identity that affected Tinubu’s 2023 campaign had reduced as Nigerians observed his approach to governance and appointments.
He argued that Tinubu’s administration had demonstrated that religious and ethnic considerations did not determine the selection of government officials.
Hamzat cited appointments to key positions, including the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank, as examples of the President’s approach to choosing what he described as capable individuals regardless of their background.
The deputy governor said Tinubu would enter the 2027 election with an established record that his administration could defend, unlike the situation in 2023 when voters were largely assessing his past record.
Hamzat also used Lagos’ religious diversity as an example of how Christians and Muslims can work together despite differences. He said he regularly attends Christian gatherings despite being a Muslim.
He further highlighted the role of the Lagos chapter of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council in resolving disagreements between Christian and Muslim communities through dialogue.
According to him, the same principle of religious and ethnic inclusiveness should guide the country, adding that Nigerians were increasingly recognising what he described as Tinubu’s inclusive approach.
Hamzat consequently predicted that Tinubu would perform better in the 2027 election, particularly in Lagos, insisting that the President’s chances were “far, far, far better.”
