Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu and Iyaloja General of Lagos State, has urged parents to prevent their children from joining the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1. In a widely shared video, Tinubu-Ojo emphasized that the Lagos State Government has made notable strides and merits support.
She appealed to Nigerians to allow the Federal Government, led by her father, some time to demonstrate its capabilities before passing judgment.
Addressing market women in Yoruba, Tinubu-Ojo advised them to caution their children about the risks associated with participating in the #ENdBadGovernance protest. In the video, she said, “Let’s talk to ourselves, our children, and our families that there is no need for protests in Lagos; it is merely a scheme to harm the country. Consider the damage from the previous protest. Let us not allow our children to join in just because a party is paying some people to cause trouble.”
In her English-language statement, she continued, “There should be no protests in Lagos State because the Lagos State Government is making us proud and giving us a sense of belonging. The central government has only recently taken office; give it at least three years before making judgments about its performance. It is better to prevent problems than to address them later. We must avoid any loss of lives. Parents should warn their children.”
