The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates. The results were made public on Monday, August 12, as confirmed by a post on the examination body’s official X account.

The announcement read, “The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform candidates who took the WASSCE for School Candidates in 2024 that the results have been officially released today, Monday, August 12, 2024.”

Amos Dangut, the Head of WAEC Nigeria, also confirmed the release during a press briefing on Monday. He reported that results for 1,685,889 candidates, which represents 93.9%, have been released. Dangut noted that while insecurity in various parts of the country affected the examination process, a total of 1,805,216 candidates had registered for the WASSCE.

Of these candidates, 1,332,089 received credits in five subjects, including at least one subject in either Mathematics or English Language, while 1,301,949 candidates achieved credits in five subjects, including both Mathematics and English Language, accounting for 72.9% of the total candidates.

Dangut further explained that this year’s results show a 7.6% decrease in performance compared to the 2023 WASSCE results. Additionally, 215,267 results were withheld due to examination malpractice, which constitutes 11.92% of the total candidates who sat for the exam.

To access the results, candidates should visit https://waecdirect.org and follow these steps:

1. Enter your 10-digit WAEC Examination Number (your 7-digit center number followed by your 3-digit candidate number, e.g., 4123456789).
– For examination years before 1999, enter your 8-digit WAEC Examination Number (your 5-digit center number followed by your 3-digit candidate number, e.g., 19865001).
2. Enter the 4 digits of your Examination Year (e.g., 2002).
3. Select the Type of Examination.
4. Enter the e-PIN Voucher Number.
5. Enter the Personal Identification Number (PIN) from your e-PIN.
6. Click Submit and wait for the results window to appear.
