The family of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has expressed opposition to plans for marking the anniversary of his death. According to Drivetvnews, Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain unresolved.
In a statement issued by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team, the family urged organizations and individuals intending to celebrate Mohbad’s first anniversary to suspend their plans. The family emphasized their desire to mourn Mohbad quietly and avoid reopening old wounds.
The statement also highlighted concerns that some might use Mohbad’s memory for commercial gain. It read, “The Aloba family has learned that certain organizations are planning to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). We urge these groups to suspend their plans.
“It is already known that some individuals and organizations are considering events to honor the late singer. We request that they seek proper approval from the family before proceeding. The Aloba family does not want their beloved son’s legacy exploited for commercial purposes.”
