The eight members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were abducted by unknown assailants while traveling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto State have been released.
YD Ahmed, the Director-General of NYSC, spoke to the media on Friday, urging Corps Members to avoid traveling at night. He reassured that the safety and welfare of all members remain a top priority for the NYSC.
He described the incident, noting that the Corps Members were kidnapped on August 17, 2024, on Funtua Bisau Road in Zamfara State while en route from Uyo to Sokoto.
Ahmed explained that the NYSC worked closely with the Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and local traditional leaders. A meeting was also held with the governor of Zamfara State to address the situation.
Thanks to these combined efforts, particularly by the Nigerian Army and the NYSC, the rescue operation made progress, leading to the release of the first group of four members.
