Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has faced significant backlash after a video emerged of him striking a man who was allegedly preaching at his bar.

The footage quickly went viral, drawing widespread criticism from online users who condemned Portable’s aggressive actions and reignited debates about his contentious behavior in public.

On Monday, Portable streamed a live video on Instagram while confronting a middle-aged man outside his bar in Sango Ota, Ogun State. In the video, a visibly irate Portable, addressing the man who appeared to be holding a Bible, asked, “Why disturb my customers on a Monday morning?” before hitting him.

“This is how they ruin my business and bother my customers. Are you out of your mind? Early on a Monday, you’re disrupting my business. I prayed for myself before leaving home,” Portable added before telling the man to leave the area.

The incident provoked strong reactions from social media users, many of whom criticized Portable for assaulting the man. Some users expressed their disapproval on X.com using the hashtag #delemon. One user, #jbrandy_YBNL, commented, “Why will Portable slap a Pastor? This Bro Doesn’t deserve the fame we gave him.”

Another user, #TemitayoOdede, expressed distress, stating, “This guy Portable is doing too much. Look at the audacity, slapping a man of God. What could the man have done to warrant such a response?”

Conversely, a user under the hashtag #delemon defended Portable, suggesting, “I’ve heard people say this is assault and that he should get a lawyer. If the man is a genuine servant of God, Portable may face consequences. Slapping a servant of God without any repercussions could mean serious trouble for him.”
