A Nigerian soldier has been accused of stealing ammunition and uniforms from his colleagues in Katsina.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows the soldier, with his hands tied behind his back, being physically assaulted.
One of the soldiers in the video, speaking in Pidgin English, said, “He stole my ammunition, and that wasn’t enough; he also took my Special Force uniform and regimental jacket.”
Another soldier commented, “We’re all from the same unit, 35 Battalion. He sold the items to bandits. We thought he was a comrade, but he turned out to be our enemy.”
Efforts to reach Army spokesperson Major General Onyema Nwachukwu were unsuccessful as calls to his phone went unanswered, and he had not responded to a message seeking comment at the time of the report.
The military has previously condemned instances of personnel being involved in aiding criminals, including terrorists and bandits.
