Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, a well-known and often controversial Nigerian artist, recently made a public request for financial support in a video. This came after music producer Don Jazzy made a large donation to Nigerian activist Verydarkman (VDM).

Verydarkman recently launched a charity account through a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to assist those in need. So far, the activist has raised over N70 million in this account through contributions from wealthy donors.

On the morning of Thursday, October 17th, VDM revealed that an anonymous donor had contributed a staggering N100 million to his NGO account. He expressed his surprise at discovering this large sum without any prior notification.

Shortly afterward, VDM shared that Don Jazzy reached out to him, explaining that he made the donation because he believed in VDM’s cause and trusted that the funds would be managed with transparency.

The news of Don Jazzy’s donation quickly spread on social media, prompting many users and celebrities, such as Zlatan Ibile, Portable, and Tiwa Savage, to approach Don Jazzy for financial assistance.

Portable, known for his straightforward nature, took to his Instagram story to directly request support from the Mavin Records founder.

In his message, Portable subtly criticized Verydarkman, suggesting that the activist’s NGO account might be more focused on personal gain rather than supporting Nigerians.

He also mentioned an earlier interview where Don Jazzy had spoken about using Portable as a role model for his signed artists, urging them to boost their online presence in a similar way.

Portable argued that Don Jazzy should provide him with financial support rather than using him solely as a motivational example, saying, “Someone who claims to be fighting for Nigeria is really fighting for himself. Don Jazzy, Don Jazzy, Don Jazzy, I’m calling you three times, don’t just use me to motivate your signees, bless me, help me, give me money. I messaged you on Instagram, and you didn’t respond. Please don’t just use me for motivation, help me.”
