President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has swiftly responded to the tragic helicopter crash in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, directing the military and relevant agencies to intensify their rescue operations. The chartered helicopter, operated by Eastwind Aviation Logistics Services Limited, was carrying senior officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) when it crashed about one kilometre from its destination, near Bonny Finima ¹.
The incident occurred yesterday morning, with the helicopter departing from the Port Harcourt Military Base en route to the NUIM ANTAN oil rig. President Tinubu’s directive aims to ensure a swift recovery of any survivors and effective management of the crash’s aftermath.
In a statement released by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu urged military officers in the zone to join the rescue mission and provide necessary support to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and other relevant agencies ¹.
The President also extended his condolences to the Board and staff of NNPC and the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. Three people have been confirmed dead, and President Tinubu prayed for eternal rest for the departed souls and comfort for their families.
