A tragic event in Anambra State has resulted in the death of a young man, reportedly shot by a police officer from the Otuocha Area Command in Anambra East Local Government Area during a disagreement over ₦100 at a checkpoint.
As reported by the Daily Post, the confrontation escalated when one of the officers discharged his firearm, leading to the victim’s death.
A resident of Aguleri, located in the same local government area, shared a distressing video of the victim’s body and identified the police team involved, allegedly led by an officer named Onyebuchi.
The incident, which took place on Saturday, has triggered anger within the community, prompting local youths to organize protests against the police action.
The exact cause of the argument is still unclear, with conflicting information on whether it involved a request for a ₦100 bribe or an outstanding balance. However, the police have confirmed the occurrence of the shooting.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, addressed media questions, stating that the command is aware of the incident and has responded accordingly.
“The officer involved has been identified as Inspector Sani Suleiman. He has been disarmed and placed in custody for further investigation and internal disciplinary procedures,” Ikenga stated.
