At least three people have died following renewed clashes between farmers and herders in the Nasarawa and Toto local government areas of Nasarawa State. The Commissioner of Police for Nasarawa State, Umar Nadada, confirmed the incident while addressing journalists in Lafia, the state capital.

Nadada explained that the violence occurred in the Dogon Duste community, located along the border of Nasarawa and Toto LGAs.

He stated, “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) received a report of a confrontation between farmers and herders on Monday, November 18, at approximately 4:30 pm.

“Upon arriving at the scene, it was discovered that two individuals had been killed on the farm, while four others sustained injuries and were taken to a Primary Health Care facility for treatment.”

During a subsequent search, officers found another body in the surrounding bushes, bringing the total death toll to three, Nadada added.

The Commissioner noted that calm had been restored in the area and assured that the police would conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

According to Drive TV News, Nadada stated that the police were working closely with the local community to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence. He called on residents to continue cooperating with security agencies to enhance peace and safety in the state.

The Commissioner also highlighted the implementation of a strategic action plan based on an analysis of crime trends in the state, emphasizing a focus on collaborative policing.

Nadada further revealed that the command had made significant progress in addressing insecurity through community partnerships. He credited the cooperation between the police, the public, and the state government for positioning Nasarawa as one of the most peaceful states in the country.
