A disturbing case of ATM card swapping has been caught on CCTV in Anambra State, where a young woman exploited an elderly, visually impaired widow, depleting her account within minutes.

The incident occurred at an ATM in Nnewi, located in Nnewi North Local Government Area. The elderly widow, who was struggling to use the machine due to her visual impairment, had visited the ATM to withdraw cash.

During her attempt, a woman dressed in a red top and black trousers offered to assist her. Under the guise of helping, the suspect swapped the widow’s ATM card with an expired or fake card after obtaining her PIN. Without realizing the deceit, the elderly woman accepted the swapped card and the woman left the scene.

Moments later, the widow started receiving debit alerts on her phone, revealing that her account had been emptied.

A 42-second CCTV recording of the incident has since been shared widely on social media, providing evidence of what transpired.

Eyewitnesses emphasized the need for increased vigilance at ATMs, particularly for vulnerable individuals like the elderly and people with disabilities. This incident serves as a warning for individuals to exercise caution and remain alert when seeking assistance at ATM points.
