Operatives from the Odeda Division of the Ogun State Police Command have detained Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat, valued at N200,000, to prepare for his child’s naming ceremony.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed on Saturday that Waris was apprehended on January 2, 2024, in the Odeda area of Ogun State, alongside his alleged accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf.

Reports indicate that the suspects illegally entered a local farm and stole the goat after confirming that the farm owner, identified as Mark, had taken the other livestock out for grazing on December 25, 2023.

Upon returning, the farm owner discovered that one of the goats was missing and initiated a search within the community.

During the search, residents reportedly informed the authorities that the two suspects had been seen with the missing goat on a motorcycle, heading toward Olodo town.

Based on this information, detectives were dispatched, leading to the arrest of the suspects on January 2, 2024.

According to Odutola, “The suspects admitted to the crime during interrogation. They explained how they stole, transported, and later slaughtered the goat on December 27, 2023. They also revealed that the goat was used to prepare food for Akintoye Waris’s daughter’s naming ceremony, which took place in Olodo.”

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue at the Divisional Crime Branch.

Odutola assured the public that the suspects would face prosecution once the investigation is concluded and promised to provide updates on the case as new information emerges.
