A Nigerian woman has stirred discussions on social media after sharing the strict rules her landlord has imposed on tenants.

Using her TikTok account, @ajoke_pairs, she posted an image of the detailed list of 12 regulations, expressing her dissatisfaction and calling for more leniency.

The rules address various aspects of tenancy, including maintaining cleanliness, adhering to noise control, and following specific guest policies. They also outline responsibilities related to property maintenance and orderliness.

The Landlord’s Rules for Tenants:

  1. Maintain a clean environment.
  2. Fighting is prohibited on the property.
  3. Rent must be paid within two months.
  4. Tenants must repair any damage they cause.
  5. Generators should not be used after midnight.
  6. Toilets must be cleaned every two days.
  7. Turn off gas appliances after use.
  8. Do not leave food unattended while cooking.
  9. Stealing is strictly forbidden.
  10. Visitors are not allowed without the landlord’s approval.
  11. Avoid playing loud music to prevent disturbing others.
  12. Do not make any alterations to the property.

The list sparked mixed reactions online. One user, Marvelous Ike, criticized the landlord’s rules, saying, “This is excessive. I can’t live in a place where I’m told when to clean my toilet. It’s not even a shared apartment. This is just unreasonable.”

In contrast, another commenter, @1328828728282, defended the landlord, stating, “People may find these rules harsh, but they won’t understand until they own their own property. Some tenants can damage your house, leaving you helpless.”

The viral post has reignited debates about the responsibilities of tenants and landlords, as well as the need for a balanced approach to property management.
