Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have issued a one-week ultimatum to the Nigerian government, threatening to kill 176 abducted women and children from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State if their demands are not met.
Drivetvnews gathered that the warning was reportedly delivered through some of the victims after a Jumu’ah prayer, according to community members and families.
The traditional ruler of the area, Salihu Bio, confirmed the development, revealing that one of the abductees was allowed to contact her family and pass on the message from the captors.
According to him, the terrorists expressed frustration over what they described as a lack of serious engagement from the government, despite the resources they claim to be using to keep the victims alive.
He added that the abducted individuals are currently safe but are being subjected to religious teachings by their captors.
A source within the community painted a more troubling picture, alleging that the terrorists have also threatened to force some of the girls into marriage while killing those they consider a burden if no agreement is reached within the deadline.
In a video reportedly released by the group, an armed member claimed responsibility for the abduction, stating that the victims had been indoctrinated and urging the government to respond through appeals made by the captives.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get an official response from the police were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to the Kwara State Police spokesperson were not answered.
The situation has left families of the victims in distress, calling on authorities to act quickly to secure their release.
