At least seven people have reportedly been killed following an attack on a border community in Benue State.

The incident occurred in Channel One, a settlement in the Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area. A resident, Amos, said the attack happened late Sunday night along the Arufu–Wukari Road axis.

According to him, suspected armed herders stormed the community around 11 p.m., firing gunshots and forcing residents to flee for safety.

A community leader, Joseph Anawah, confirmed the incident and stated that six victims had been identified. He listed them as Akor Gwakyaa, Msooter Gwakyaa, Aondoungwa Michael, Vershima Michael, Terna Michael, and Msughter Terzungwe.

He added that several others sustained serious injuries and were taken to medical facilities in nearby towns, including Anyiin and Ugba, for treatment.

Anawah explained that the attackers reportedly arrived in large numbers on motorcycles and were heavily armed. He also alleged that the group may be operating from Shaor, a deserted village believed to serve as a base for such attacks in the area.

Following the incident, many residents of the affected and neighbouring communities have fled their homes over fears of further violence.

The Chairman of Logo Local Government Area, Clement Kav, also confirmed the attack, stating that seven people were killed while four others were injured. He said the matter had been reported to security authorities.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Udeme Edet, said she had yet to receive an official report at the time but promised to provide updates once details are confirmed.

The latest attack adds to a series of violent incidents in the state in recent days, raising fresh concerns over security in affected communities.
