The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued a young woman from a suspected armed robber and ritualist, launching an active manhunt for the fleeing suspect.

This was disclosed in a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter).

According to the statement, the incident occurred at a hotel in the Wuse district of Abuja, where 25-year-old Promise Eze, from Ebonyi State, was discovered tied to a small chair with her mouth taped shut.

Police responded to a distress call from hotel staff on January 31, 2025, and found the victim unconscious and in critical condition. She was immediately taken to Wuse District Hospital, where she regained consciousness.

Initial investigations revealed that Promise Eze had checked into the hotel on January 30 with a man who introduced himself as Emmanuel Okoro from Lagos State. However, she later informed authorities that she met the suspect online, where he used the alias Michael Prince and claimed to be an oil company employee from Delta State.

The statement further detailed that the suspect had initially invited her to Delta, but after she declined, they agreed to meet in Abuja. What began as an ordinary meeting soon turned into a terrifying ordeal.

The suspect allegedly threatened the victim with a dagger, restrained her by tying her hands and legs, and taped her mouth shut inside the bathroom before fleeing with her two mobile phones.

Before leaving, the victim reportedly overheard him on a phone call with suspected accomplices, saying he was regrouping before returning to “finish the job.”

In response, the FCT Police Command has intensified efforts to track and apprehend the suspect. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, strongly condemned the incident and urged the public—especially young women—to be cautious when meeting individuals they do not know personally.

The CP reassured residents of the FCT Police Command’s dedication to public safety and called on anyone with information that could aid in the suspect’s arrest to contact the police through the following numbers:

Emergency Line: 08032003913
Complaint Response Unit: 08107314192

Residents are also advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
