Seven individuals were brought before the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin on Monday, facing charges related to the alleged murder of Awesu Mojisola, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa. The incident reportedly took place in Offa Local Government Area.

Among those arraigned were Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, identified as the primary suspects, along with Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, who are the parents of Happiness. Additionally, three hotel employees—Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus—were also charged in connection with the crime.

The defendants faced six charges, including conspiracy, murder, evidence tampering, and unlawful disposal of the victim’s body. According to the prosecution, they were responsible for the death of Awesu Mojisola on August 9, 2024.

The charges were filed under Sections 97, 221, and 167 of the Penal Code, CAP. P4, Laws of Kwara State, 2006, as well as Section 9 of the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.

During Monday’s court session, Kwara State’s Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. Ayoola Akande, led a team of five other lawyers for the prosecution. Meanwhile, Barristers F.A. Ahmed and A.I. Orisankoko represented the parents of the prime suspect and the hotel employees.

However, the court was unable to proceed with the case or take the defendants’ pleas due to the absence of legal representation for Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole.

Presiding over the case, Justice Adebayo Yusuf ordered that the principal suspects, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, be remanded in a correctional facility. The case was adjourned until February 24, 2025, for proper arraignment.

Reports indicate that Awesu Mojisola was allegedly lured to Ilorin by Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole before being murdered. Her body was later dumped at a disposal site in the Warah community between August 8 and 9, 2024.

Happiness Adebayo, along with his parents, Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, was accused of conspiracy and tampering with evidence, offenses punishable under the Kwara State Penal Code, 2006.

Similarly, Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus were charged with conspiracy and unlawfully disposing of the victim’s remains along Warah Road, Ilorin, in violation of the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.
