The Imo State Police Command has arrested three individuals in the Ogii community, Okigwe Local Government Area, for allegedly being in possession of a human skull.

The suspects, identified as Patrick Okoere (29), Ifeanyichukwu Anyaemeka (28), and Chukwuemeka Onyekachi (20), were taken into custody after residents provided information that led to their apprehension.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, the suspects were arrested on February 3 along the Okigwe-Umuahia Expressway. Law enforcement officers reportedly found them in possession of a human skull, a native hen, and white garments.

During interrogation, Okoere allegedly claimed that his uncle, Osunta Oko, had instructed him to acquire a human skull for use in a land dispute. He further stated that he discovered the skull near a riverbank in an area notorious for kidnapping activities.

The police statement read: “As part of ongoing efforts by the Imo State Police Command to combat criminal activities, officers from the Okigwe Divisional Headquarters, in collaboration with residents of Ogii community, arrested three suspects on 3/02/2025 along the Okigwe-Umuahia Expressway. The individuals were found with a human skull, a native hen, and white garments.”

The statement continued: “The suspects—Patrick Okoere (29), Ifeanyichukwu Anyaemeka (28), and Chukwuemeka Onyekachi (20)—are currently under investigation. During questioning, Patrick Okoere disclosed that his uncle, Osunta Oko, had instructed him to obtain a human skull. He claimed to have found it near a riverbank in an area known for reported kidnapping incidents.”

Law enforcement authorities have launched a search for Osunta Oko and any other individuals who may be involved. Additionally, a DNA analysis is being conducted to determine the identity of the skull’s owner.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining security and ensuring justice. He emphasized that the suspects would be prosecuted once the investigation is complete.

Meanwhile, Okoye confirmed that updates on the case would be provided as the investigation progresses.
