Chaos erupted at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, after a female student attacked and bit a lecturer during a heated exchange.

The incident took place on campus when Dr. Chukwudi Michael, a lecturer, interrupted the student who was recording a dance video in the faculty corridor. According to witnesses, the student was dancing while being filmed when Michael attempted to pass by her.

One witness recounted that the lecturer tapped the student on the shoulder to say, “Excuse me,” as he tried to move past her. In response, the student became upset and exclaimed, “Can you imagine how he just hit me?”

The situation escalated quickly, turning into a physical confrontation as the student grabbed the lecturer’s clothes. Onlookers attempted to step in, but the argument continued. A viral video, shared on social media on Tuesday, captured the moment the student lashed out at Michael, insisting that he had struck her. Another clip showed the lecturer raising his hands in an apparent attempt to de-escalate the situation while the student held on to him forcefully.

UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident, explaining that the university was conducting an internal investigation. “Yes, there was an incident. Investigations are ongoing, and the university will make its position known once the inquiry is complete,” Chukwurah said.

Chukwurah further explained that Michael claimed to have overheard the student insulting him after he passed by. He returned to check if she was one of his students. Michael, suspecting the student was filming a TikTok video and not wanting to be part of it, reportedly asked her to delete the video. In retaliation, the student allegedly bit him on both arms. Images circulating online show visible bite marks on Michael’s arms.

Reports indicate the student involved is a 300-level History and International Studies major and the daughter of a lecturer in the university’s Engineering Department.
