A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Safwan Fade, has tragically died after being attacked by a group of hoodlums in Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Fade, who was serving at the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, was reportedly assaulted at a local stadium, resulting in severe injuries that ultimately led to his death.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, confirmed the incident at the Command’s headquarters in Jos. He stated that two individuals, Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe, had been taken into custody in connection with the crime.

According to Adesina, a total of 24 suspects were arrested for various offenses, with investigations ongoing to ensure justice for the victim.

Providing further details, he said, “On January 23, 2025, at around 7:00 a.m., we received a report from Umbule Boreng Reuben of Pankshin LGA about an incident that took place on January 22, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m. The report indicated that Safwan Adamu Fade, an NYSC corps member serving at FCE Pankshin, was attacked and severely injured by unidentified assailants at Pankshin Township Stadium.

“Following this report, I directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Pankshin Division to dispatch officers to the scene. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, where medical personnel stabilized his condition. However, due to complications, he was transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where he later passed away.

“Our investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe. Efforts are ongoing to track down others involved and bring them to justice.”

Adesina commended the public for their support in assisting law enforcement efforts against crime.

He also highlighted recent operational achievements of the Plateau State Police Command, including the arrest of multiple criminals and the recovery of illegal weapons.

Emphasizing the police force’s commitment to public safety, the Commissioner expressed appreciation for the media’s role in keeping citizens informed. He also praised the dedication and professionalism of police officers in the state, reaffirming their resolve to maintain law and order.
