Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the closure of all local government secretariats in the state, urging residents and politicians to stay away to prevent further violence and safeguard public assets.

This decision follows violent clashes reportedly sparked by an attempt by dismissed APC chairmen and councillors to seize control of local government councils.

Adeleke made this announcement on Monday evening via his official X account, stating:

“In light of reports regarding a failed illegal takeover of local government councils in Osun by sacked APC Chairmen and councillors, I am directing all residents, regardless of political affiliation, to avoid local government secretariats to protect public property and prevent further violence.”

The governor’s directive comes as tensions continue to escalate, with members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) suspending their services statewide, effectively shutting down council secretariats.

“This measure has become necessary as local government secretariats are expected to remain closed due to the withdrawal of services by NULGE workers across the state,” Adeleke explained.

Expressing his condolences, the governor mourned those who lost their lives in the unrest and sympathized with the affected families.

*”I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives due to the APC’s unlawful takeover attempt and the chaos instigated by their supporters. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost five members, with many others injured.
