The Court of Appeal in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, has confirmed Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, as the legitimate Soun of Ogbomosoland.
In its ruling, the appellate court overturned an earlier decision by the High Court, which had ruled in favor of Prince Muhammed Kabiru Olaoye in his challenge against Oba Ghandi’s selection. The Appeal Court dismissed all claims questioning Oba Ghandi’s eligibility, including allegations that he was not a direct descendant of a previous Soun and that his father was not buried at the Abata burial site, where past rulers were laid to rest.
Additionally, the court affirmed that Oba Ghandi’s selection by the kingmakers was lawful. As a result, Prince Muhammed Kabiru Olaoye was ordered to pay a fine of N500,000 for each charge.
