A heartbreaking incident in Isara, Ogun State, has left the community in shock after a teenager, Olamide Phillips, allegedly fatally stabbed his friend, Moses Odeh, during a heated argument.
The altercation, which took place on Monday, led Phillips to flee the scene. However, he was later apprehended in a nearby town.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the two teenagers were close friends who lived in the same compound with their families.
In a statement on Tuesday, police spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola explained that the conflict erupted due to a disagreement between the boys.
While the exact cause of the fight remains unclear, tensions reportedly escalated after Odeh walked in on his father, Otsapa, scolding Phillips.
Earlier, Phillips’ mother had accused him of stealing ₦5,000 from her bank account and had informed Odeh’s father about the matter.
“Despite their parents’ efforts to intervene, Phillips allegedly grabbed a sharp object and stabbed Odeh in the stomach,” Odutola stated.
Odeh was immediately taken to Kings Hospital, a local medical facility, but unfortunately, he did not survive. His body has since been transferred to the General Hospital in Isara for an autopsy.
After the attack, Phillips fled to Ipara Remo, a neighboring town, but was tracked down and arrested by officers from the Isara Division following an extensive manhunt.
“He is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Abeokuta for further investigation,” Odutola added.
