Two bodies have been recovered from the wreckage of a collapsed two-story building under construction at Oriwu Estate, Lagos. Several individuals were trapped when the structure gave way on Wednesday.

Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), reported that 14 people have been rescued, while six others sustained injuries of varying severity.

“Emergency teams were deployed from LASEMA’s Lekki and Cappa bases after distress calls were received at 2:25 PM through the emergency toll-free lines,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.

The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined, and investigations are ongoing. He confirmed that two adult males were recovered from the debris, while six injured victims received immediate medical attention before being transferred to Marina General Hospital for further treatment.

The collapse, which occurred around 4:00 PM on Wednesday, prompted a rapid response from emergency agencies. Rescue operations commenced in the Ikota area of Ajah, Lagos State.

Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed that police officers and rescue teams were sent to the site.

“So far, 14 individuals have been rescued and transported to Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment,” Hundeyin said. “Security personnel remain at the location to maintain order as rescue efforts continue.”
