A woman has reportedly filed for divorce just five months after her husband took out a loan to fund their lavish wedding.

According to content creator Nasco, who shared the story on TikTok, the couple got married in July but separated by December. The wife allegedly stated that she no longer felt a sense of belonging in the marriage, which led to her decision to leave.

By March 2025—just three months after their separation—she was said to have moved on and started a new relationship with another man.

Nasco recounted, “A friend of mine got married in July last year, but by December, his wife told him she didn’t feel like she belonged in the marriage anymore and wanted out. He initially thought it was something they could work through, but she was firm in her decision and left. By March, I saw her with another man at Shoprite.”

He further claimed that the woman had pressured her husband into having an extravagant wedding, which he had to borrow money to afford. Unfortunately, even after the marriage ended, he was still struggling to repay the debt.

Social Media Reactions

The story sparked various reactions online, with many people sharing their opinions on expensive weddings and relationships built on financial expectations.

  • @Gracious Vianney: “When I say I don’t like costly weddings, some men think I’m being unreasonable. That money could be used to build a business instead.”
  • @EmMYJoJo: “Before committing to a relationship, act broke to see if her love is real.”
  • @Deborah: “Marriage vows aren’t even biblical. I have no idea who started the trend or how it became popular.”
  • @Standard Chinny: “Why would a grown man borrow money just to impress people with a big wedding? Live within your means.”
  • @CelestinePemostar: “I will marry only once, and it will be with the right person. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
  • @Chinedu6044: “This happened to me in 2023. I can relate to the pain.”
  • @Payge: “It’s not the woman’s fault. The man forced love on her with money and gifts.”
  • @Mayor: “A friend of mine got married in January, divorced by April. Meanwhile, the tailor hasn’t even finished sewing my outfit for the wedding!”

The incident has reignited discussions on the financial strain of extravagant weddings and the importance of ensuring a strong emotional foundation before marriage.
