An angry mob in Main Market, Onitsha, Anambra State, took justice into their own hands on Wednesday, setting two suspected criminals ablaze. The incident occurred around 3:30 pm. The suspects had allegedly been terrorizing residents of Sokoto Road.
Before being set on fire, the suspects were lynched by the crowd. An eyewitness confirmed that the suspects were caught attempting to forcefully rob a tricycle operator of his money and belongings within the market. The mob intervened, leading to the lynching and subsequent burning of the culprits.
The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, condemned the act, emphasizing the importance of reporting criminal activities to the police. As of now, there has been no official statement from Nigerian authorities regarding the incident.
