The Adamawa State Police Command has taken a 35-year-old man, Abdullaziz Mohammed, into custody for allegedly assaulting a five-year-old child.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Suleiman Nguroje, emphasized that combating sexual and gender-based violence remains a key priority for the Commissioner of Police, Dankwambo Morris.

“The Adamawa State Police Command has once again arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Abdullaziz Mohammed, for allegedly assaulting a five-year-old minor in Mubi North Local Government Area,” the statement read.

According to the report, the suspect’s arrest followed a complaint filed by the child’s father at the Mubi North Divisional Police Headquarters. The father alleged that on March 17, 2025, Mohammed lured his daughter into his grinding engine shop at Kasuwan Borkono, Mubi North, and committed the offense, despite being fully aware of her age.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately dispatched officers from the Mubi Division to take action.

“The victim was promptly taken to a medical facility in Mubi for examination and treatment,” the statement confirmed.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to the crime. He is currently in custody while authorities conduct a detailed investigation.

The Commissioner of Police strongly condemned the act and ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola for a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice is served.

“The Adamawa State Police Command remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating sexual abuse and gender-based violence,” the statement added.

Additionally, the command urged parents and guardians to be vigilant and report individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior to law enforcement authorities.
