The Kano State Government has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the Edo State Government for their prompt action in addressing the tragic killing of 16 Kano indigenes in Uromi, Edo State.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, deeply saddened by the incident, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Edo Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo for their swift response. He acknowledged their efforts, which included sending delegations to Kano as a demonstration of solidarity and concern.

“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, for dispatching representatives from both the Federal and Edo State Governments to express their support and sympathy over this devastating event,” Governor Yusuf stated.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Kano Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Governor Yusuf reiterated his demand for justice. He emphasized the need for transparency in prosecuting those responsible for the killings.

“Justice must not only be served but must be visibly upheld. The people of Kano, and indeed all Nigerians, must witness a fair and public legal process to hold the perpetrators accountable,” he asserted.

Governor Yusuf also praised Governor Okpebholo for engaging with the Hausa community in Edo State to de-escalate tensions and prevent further unrest.

Additionally, he acknowledged the Edo State Government’s commitment to providing compensation to the victims’ families, urging a swift and effective disbursement of the promised financial support.

“The assurance of compensation is commendable, but it must be implemented without delay to support the grieving families who have lost their primary providers,” he emphasized.

Governor Yusuf highlighted that the prompt intervention by the Federal Government reflects its dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Nigerians, regardless of their state of origin.

Residents of Torankawa, the hometown of many victims, also expressed appreciation for the coordinated efforts of the Federal and Edo State Governments in addressing the situation.

Both the Kano and Edo State Governments reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a transparent and thorough justice process to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The Kano State Government pledged to closely monitor the proceedings to ensure that the victims’ families receive the justice, compensation, and support they rightfully deserve.
