A laborer has allegedly killed his 60-year-old employer, Mrs. Adelugba, using a machete at a farm settlement in Laoso, Laje Camp, located in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Drivetvnews gathered that, Mrs. Adelugba, a well-known kola nut farmer in the area, had employed the laborer to manage her three farms. The worker lived with her at the settlement.
Having recently relocated to her new home at Miracle Land, FFF, Ondo, the deceased had hired the laborer to stay with her, as her only daughter had moved to Abuja with her husband.
A source revealed that the confrontation between the two began when Mrs. Adelugba discovered the laborer stealing kola nuts from her farm. She warned him that theft was strictly forbidden in their community, with severe consequences, including banishment for offenders.
The source added that the laborer pleaded for forgiveness, promising to reimburse the value of the stolen kola nuts from his wages by year-end. Mrs. Adelugba agreed to this arrangement.
However, the laborer, who had been closely observing his employer’s movements, attacked her last Saturday, fatally striking her with a machete.
After committing the crime, he attempted to conceal the body by covering it with leaves before fleeing to the village. Community members soon apprehended him.
Upon capture, the suspect admitted to the crime, stating that his employer had been pressuring him over the stolen kola nuts, which led him to decide to kill her.
He later guided community leaders to the crime scene, where Mrs. Adelugba’s body was found and subsequently taken to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH) mortuary.
A police source disclosed that the suspect was initially detained at the Fagun Police Division before being transferred to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Akure for further questioning.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing.
