A horrifying discovery has sent shockwaves through Umuma Ndiagu, a community in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. Residents uncovered multiple corpses—including those of pregnant women and children—buried in soakaway pits within the compound of a native doctor known only as Ezeani. He is suspected of kidnapping and murdering victims for ritualistic purposes.

In a widely circulated video obtained by SaharaReporters, a visibly distressed resident described the appalling scene.

“We have apprehended those responsible for these killings. The pits are filled with corpses. They’ve murdered many people,” the man said, adding that a 13-year-old boy had just been rescued moments before he was allegedly to be used for a ritual.

Pointing to one of the individuals caught at the scene, he continued, “This is happening in the home of Ojor in Umuma Ndiagu, Ezeagu. That’s one of them right here.”

One of the suspects, captured by an enraged crowd, claimed to be a security guard assigned to protect the premises and deter intruders. Although he denied direct involvement in the killings, he admitted to frequenting the compound for ritual purposes.

Identifying the native doctor as Ezeani, the suspect said, “I’m a businessman. I came here for some sacrifices. I had completed a few rituals, but I was waiting to finish a water sacrifice.”

He further explained, “There are procedures involved, but I don’t know what materials are used. Newcomers are usually sent on errands. Ezeani instructed me to guard this place and chase away anyone who came close.”

Despite professing ignorance of the murders, the man claimed to know two others allegedly involved—one named Okey from Orji River, and another, Chibuzor, whose hometown he did not know but said he could identify by sight.

The main suspect, Ezeani, is currently at large. However, community members reportedly apprehended his wives, and in a fit of outrage, destroyed his home and set his vehicles ablaze.

Efforts by SaharaReporters to obtain a statement from the Enugu State Police Command were unsuccessful. Calls to the mobile phone of the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, went unanswered. Although a WhatsApp message was delivered, no response had been received as of the time this report was filed.
