Nollywood star Abiola Adebayo has addressed the wave of criticism and ridicule she faced online after publicly revealing the end of her marriage.

In a video that gained widespread attention on Tuesday night, the actress explained that sharing the news herself was a conscious choice aimed at preventing false narratives and speculation. She emphasized that she is, above all, human, and deserved understanding rather than judgment.

Adebayo clarified that her estranged husband was informed ahead of the announcement. She stated that he knows her true character, contrary to the assumptions made by many online.

“I’m human,” she said, alternating between English and Yoruba. “When I initially shared about my marriage, it was to stop others from telling my story. Still, people used it against me. I discussed it with my husband before going public. He knew about the post. He knows who I really am. May God repay everyone accordingly.”

The actress confirmed that the separation took place in April 2024. Although their marriage has ended, she stressed that both she and her ex-husband are committed to peacefully co-parenting their son with mutual respect.

To fans who felt disheartened by the news, Adebayo expressed sincere regret that the relationship did not succeed. However, she underscored the necessity of protecting her emotional and mental health, adding, “It’s better to be alive to share your story.”

She also asked her supporters to remember her and her family in their prayers.

While she may seem upbeat in the public eye, Adebayo admitted that the experience has been emotionally draining, revealing that she often cried herself to sleep despite putting on a brave face.
