Nigerian social media commentator and activist, Vincent Otse Martins, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM),has reignited public discourse surrounding the death of the late singer, Mohbad. The controversial figure recently shared an alleged voice recording said to capture a private conversation between music promoter Sam Larry and artist Zlatan Ibile.

The audio clip, now circulating widely online, features a conversation in Yoruba in which Zlatan seemingly distances himself from the public uproar and investigations linked to Mohbad’s death. In the recording, Zlatan appears reluctant to get involved, reportedly referencing the backlash that often follows public statements on such sensitive issues.

VDM shared the recording through his Instagram account and issued Zlatan a 48-hour deadline to make a public statement clarifying his stance and reasons for remaining silent during the peak of the campaign for justice.

“In this recording, Zlatan and Sam Larry are heard speaking shortly after Mohbad passed,” VDM stated in the video. “Zlatan has 48 hours to explain what he knows and why he stayed quiet when the rest of us were speaking out.”

Responding to those who criticized him for revisiting the case, VDM defended his actions, accusing many of being indifferent to genuine justice. He condemned the tendency to move on from unresolved matters, saying it contributes to a culture where accountability is lacking.

“Some people are asking why I’m bringing this back,” he said. “That just shows a lack of appreciation. People are already forgetting about Mohbad—that’s why the government doesn’t take us seriously. We let things go too easily.”

He also criticized individuals who, in his view, are aware of the truth but have chosen silence due to fear or pressure.

Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, died in September 2023 under circumstances that sparked national outrage. Despite initial investigations and widespread protests, he has yet to be laid to rest, prompting renewed calls for justice and accountability from fans and concerned citizens alike.
