Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has expressed deep outrage over the killing of 13 Ebonyi indigenes in Ogboji, a community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The victims were reportedly attacked during their routine monthly town union gathering held two Mondays ago.

In an official statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, the governor described the attack as a brutal and senseless act that goes against the principles of peace, unity, and respect for human life.

Governor Nwifuru stated that he had communicated directly with Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, to request a prompt and transparent investigation into the attack. He emphasized that ensuring justice in this case is critical to maintaining the cordial relationship between the two states.

“The news of the cold-blooded murder of thirteen Ebonyi citizens during a peaceful meeting in Ogboji came as a terrible shock. It is appalling that innocent people were targeted in such a cowardly manner. This act is inexcusable and must not be tolerated,” Nwifuru said.

He strongly condemned the violence, describing it as a crime that defies logic and must not be allowed to go unpunished. The governor also assured that every legal and security measure would be taken to ensure that those behind the attack are identified and prosecuted.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Ebonyi people, whether within or outside the state.

While calling on residents and particularly the affected families to remain calm, Governor Nwifuru urged against any form of retaliation that could worsen the situation. He pledged to follow the investigation closely and ensure justice is served, promising that no offender would be shielded from accountability.
