Former Trade Union Congress of Nigeria president, Peter Esele, has condemned Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde, also known as K1 De Ultimate, for allegedly disregarding airport security rules.

Esele said such behaviour was unbecoming of a celebrated musician and sent the wrong signal about accountability.

“This is more than an insult—it’s a reflection of a society where influence shields people from consequences,” he stated.

Footage shared online showed K1 standing in front of an aircraft in an apparent attempt to stop it from moving. ValueJet Airlines explained that he was denied boarding on flight VK 201 from Abuja to Lagos after insisting on carrying a flask containing liquid above the 100ml security limit.

Despite repeated instructions from security personnel, he reportedly refused to comply. The flight’s captain, Oluranti Ogoyi, also alleged that the musician opened the flask and poured its contents on her and others nearby.

Esele emphasised that aviation rules are clear—liquids over 100ml are not allowed unless declared and medically necessary—and warned that enforcement often changes when influential people are involved.

“In this country, ‘Do you know who I am?’ is not a question—it’s a threat,” he said, adding that everyday violations, from traffic abuses to ignoring pedestrian crossings, reflect a wider culture of impunity.

He called for stronger civic education, independent enforcement of laws, and equal protection for all citizens.

“In a functional system, this conduct would attract immediate legal action. Here, it ends with an apology—likely because it was caught on camera,” he remarked.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) confirmed that K1 remains under a travel ban until the investigation is concluded.

On August 7, Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo directed the NCAA to place the singer on a six-month no-fly list while the probe continues.
