The Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, has called on Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo (popularly known as Sunday Igboho), and his followers to remain law-abiding amid ongoing challenges.

The monarch made this appeal on Wednesday during a visit by Igboho and his supporters to his palace in Owo, Ondo State.

In a Facebook post cited by The PUNCH, Oba Gbadegesin described Igboho as “a symbol of hope for his generation and those to come”, commending his courage and leadership qualities. He encouraged him not to lose focus despite the difficulties he has faced.

The Olowo reassured Igboho and his team of his continued support, emphasizing that unity and cooperation among South-West communities are vital for sustainable growth, which can only thrive in a peaceful and secure environment.

Reflecting on past ordeals, Igboho expressed gratitude to South-West traditional rulers for their solidarity during his legal and security battles. He particularly recalled the July 1, 2021, raid on his Soka residence in Ibadan by the Department of State Services (DSS), which reportedly resulted in two deaths and the arrest of 13 aides.

“When our people were under frequent attacks from hoodlums, it was the monarch’s guidance and encouragement that helped us stay strong and survive those trying times,” Igboho stated.

He further acknowledged the support extended to him during his efforts to resist violent incursions by herders, which allegedly caused deaths, sexual assaults, and severe injuries to farmers in the region.
