An Ikorodu Magistrate Court has directed that Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) tests be carried out on Liam Aloba, the son of late Nigerian artiste Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The ruling followed an application filed by the singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, who asked the court to mandate a paternity test. The case, filed under the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2012 and the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009, listed Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, as the respondent.

Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga, delivering the ruling, ordered that the DNA analysis be conducted in accredited and recognized hospitals, both within and outside Nigeria. The court also directed that representatives of both parties must be present during the collection of samples.

In his application, Joseph Aloba requested permission for qualified medical personnel at the Military Hospital, Yaba—where Mohbad’s remains are currently kept—to extract hair, tissue, or other samples from the deceased. He further asked that DNA tests on Liam be carried out in certified medical facilities either in Lagos, other Nigerian states, or abroad, at his expense.

Court filings revealed that Mr. Aloba expressed doubts over Liam’s paternity, stressing that the matter must be resolved conclusively due to its impact on issues such as child maintenance and welfare.

At the hearing, Joseph Aloba was represented by Augustine Adegbemi of Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co., while Kabir Akingbolu appeared for Mohbad’s widow. With no objections raised by the respondent’s counsel, the magistrate granted the application as requested.

The court set the next hearing for November 11, 2025.
