Veteran actress Bimbo Akintola has revealed that she has declined numerous marriage proposals because she has yet to meet someone truly compatible with her. The 52-year-old screen star explained that staying single does not bother her, stressing that finding the right partner is far more important than bowing to social expectations.
In an interview, Akintola pointed out that many women rush into marriage for the wrong reasons, which she believes contributes to Nigeria’s rising rate of broken homes and divorces.
The actress also spoke about the need to raise boys and girls with the same sense of responsibility. She argued that young men should be taught accountability just like young women, insisting that any man who fathers a child must take full responsibility instead of continuing with school or other plans as though nothing happened.
On the kind of partner women should look for, Akintola urged them to value men who are hardworking and willing to grow together rather than focusing solely on wealth.
Explaining her personal stance, she said she does not view her single status as a failure: “Not having found the person I want to spend the rest of my life with isn’t a negative. I’ve received many proposals, but I’ve chosen to say no because the right person matters more than pressure from society.”
Akintola further emphasized that parents should teach their sons that their bodies are sacred, just as daughters are taught. She added that young men who impregnate women should take up their responsibilities immediately and work to provide for the child.
Her advice to women: “Don’t concentrate on rich men. Focus on men who are hardworking and ready to build a future with you.”
