ARISE Television has announced the death of one of its anchors, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who lost her life during a robbery attack at her home in Katampe, Abuja.

The station, in a statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of management, described the late journalist—popularly known as Sommie—as a cherished colleague and an energetic broadcaster who built strong connections with audiences.

“Somtochukwu was more than a member of our newsroom; she was a passionate voice that touched many lives. Our deepest sympathies go to her parents, siblings, extended family, and friends. Though her voice is gone, her impact and spirit will remain with us,” the statement read.

ARISE TV also called for a swift and thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.

Maduagwu, who was 29, joined the station as a dynamic and engaging presenter. Beyond journalism, she was also a qualified lawyer and was widely regarded as a professional, supportive colleague, and trusted friend.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025. Police authorities in the Federal Capital Territory have confirmed an investigation is underway, though official details remain limited at the moment.

Her sudden death has left colleagues, family, and friends in deep mourning, marking the loss of a rising voice in Nigerian broadcasting.
