Omoyele Sowore, activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, was arrested by security operatives at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, shortly after attending a court session involving the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore, who reportedly led Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in the nation’s capital, was said to have narrowly avoided being apprehended earlier in the week when police officers dispersed demonstrators during the rally.
The protest had called for Kanu’s immediate release and led to the arrest of 13 individuals, including the IPOB leader’s brother and legal representative.
Following the incident, Sowore took to his social media platforms to confirm the arrests. He accused the authorities of political intimidation and vowed to continue campaigning for the release of detained activists and political prisoners.
As of press time, the exact reason for his detention remains unclear. However, sources suggest that his arrest may be linked to his participation in the Monday protest and his alleged refusal to comply with police directives.
