The Gombe State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Colonel Abdullahi Bello (rtd), has died in a fatal road accident.
The state government confirmed his death in a statement issued on Friday by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli. According to Misilli, the tragic crash occurred along the Malam Sidi–Gombe highway.
He explained that the late commissioner lost his life alongside his police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Husaini, while returning from Maiduguri, Borno State. They were said to be returning from the North East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) Programme.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who received the sad news with deep sorrow, described the deceased as a disciplined officer, loyal public servant, and patriotic leader who brought his wealth of military experience to the state’s service.
“Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd) will be remembered for his courage, discipline, and selfless dedication. His passing is a huge loss not only to his family and the government but also to Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole,” the governor stated.
He also acknowledged Bello’s significant contributions during his time in the State Executive Council, particularly in formulating policies on internal security, inter-agency cooperation, and community safety.
Governor Yahaya extended condolences to the late commissioner’s family, his associates, and the Balanga Local Government community, praying that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him eternal rest.
He further sympathized with the family of the late police orderly and prayed for the quick recovery of the commissioner’s driver, who sustained injuries in the crash and is receiving treatment.
